比较从句好混乱

1.English is spoken by three times as many nonnative speakers as native speakers.

这句话怎么分析呢如果没有上文我都不知道是谁比谁多

2. 还找到同类型的句子there're three times as many girls as boys

按Tom is three times as strong as Jim这种句型自然会以为以上句子后者比前者多，想请教各位老师应该如何分析比较从句，以及比较从句的省略型式例如he said police had killed three times as many attackers和he ate three times as much 说明是既可以省略所指内容也可以省略比较对象吗?
