He【主语】// was【系动词】// too much of a coward【表语】// to tell the truth even to his closest friend【结果状语】.
备注(1):much of a+名词，表示“称得上是...”。
备注(2):too....to do sth 太...而不能做某事。
备注(3)：even to his closest friend作不定式to tell的间接宾语成分。the truth为直接宾语，结构tell sb sth=tell sth to sb。
