《剑桥学生英语语法》中p175 中的一句话该如何理解

The content clause in [ⅲ] is introduced by the subordinator that, but the rest of the clause does not differ from that of the main clause These people had been invited. (Huddleston & Pullum, 2005, p. 175)

该怎么理解？differ from that 中的 that 又指代什么呢？

例【iii】为：I don’t think that these people had been invited.

这句话很好理解啊。就是告诉你that引导了一个内容分句，that是从属连词，除了that外，分句和作独立句子时没有不同。即These people had been invited. 是个main clause独立分句，你在前面加上连词that，就可以用作从属分句作名词性成分了。其实就是告诉你that在分句中不做成分。
