《剑桥英语语法》p 1109，例句：

There is no more reason to invite him than there was to invite her.

请问如果删去比较从句中的there was, 是否符合语法？

不可以省略，因为两者时态不一样。

There is no more reason to invite him than there was to invite her.

但如果从句有明确的时态状语，可以体现从句的时态，则也可以省略。如：

He is better today than (he was) yesterday.

下面句子中从句中的 there is 可以省略，因为它与主句的 there is 时态相同：

There is more fibre in wholemeal bread than (there is) in white bread. 全麦面包纤维含量比白面包高。

There is a higher standard of living in the north than (there is) in the south. 北方的生活水平比南方为高。

There is more information about geography in an encyclopedia than (there is) in a dictionary. 百科全书比中关于地理方面的信息要比词典中的更多。
