从句问题

He just gave me the impression he could do whatever project we dreamed up better if he did it alone.

这里he could do whatever project we dreamed up better if he did it alone是个什么从句呢？

如果是同位语从句，为什么没有that呢？

这是同位语从句。国内英语教学中通常认为引导同位语从句是that不能省略。但实际上在非正式语体中引导同位语从句的that是可以省略的。例如以下词典例句：

They'll make allowances for the fact it's affecting our performance. 柯林斯英汉双解大词典

The fact we didn't win when we were so close is very disappointing. 朗文当代英语词典

这个应该是非正式文体吧，我在网页搜索中看到类似的句子是这样的-（he grabbed his suitcase and gave the impression he was boarding the Tokyo plane)

正常情况下同位语从句是不可省的，只有做宾语从句中关系词作宾语可以省略。
