这句话中的mean为什么要用被动语态，“被意味着”直接用mean不可以吗？

mean to do sth. 意欲、想要，其主语为有意志的人。mean sb/sth to do sth 想要某人或某物做某事，做某事并不是宾语自己的意图。你的句子的主语为descriptions，是没有意志和意图的，不可能发出mean这个动作的，所以必须用被动语态。
