网友对我在我的文章里写的这句提出了质疑，看来网友对这种用法还有困惑，我特在此解答兼作回复。

《剑桥语法》的句子This is a more carefully researched article than I have read this semester. 可有多种正确写法。（这里仅考虑句子是否正确，不考虑句意和结构的变化）

变化1. This is a more carefully researched article than what I have read this semester. 这里than 是介词，句子结构和该书的句子结构有些不同。

请看英文书刊的相似例句：

1. I am sure it would be a much better book than what I was able to accomplish myself.

2. Is that not a better book than what you envisioned?

3. ...we feel that when the revision finally comes out, it will be a much better book than what we have had in the past.

注意：如果此句改为：He has read a more carefully researched article than I have read this semester. 这时than后如果加what是错的。请网友体会和比较它们的区别。

变化2. This is a more carefully researched article than the one I have read this semester. 这也是对的。其实这里的the one that =what. 《剑桥语法》的原句实际也可以看作是what/the one 的省略。
