首先，你的逻辑是对的。词本无意，意由境生，没有上下文的孤立句子，按照你的理解也是可以的。这是为什么有识之士强烈反对这类题型的原因；

其次，参考书的解析有误。当evil做sth bad，sth harmful解释的时候，它是个可数名词。如你所言，原文先列举了世间“不好的事情”，如果此处evil做名词用的话，应该用evils。所以此处evil是做形容词用，才有 the evil一说：the + adj. = n.
