谢谢好题老师出题！我觉得句子主要错在 in case 从句的时态，即它不能用将来时，可改用一般现在时或用情态动词should, might+动词原形：
误：He has the gun at the ready in case he'll need to defend himself.
正：He has the gun at the ready in case he needs / should need / might need to defend himself.
译：我把枪准备好，以防要自卫用。

ready作为名词用在习语at the ready，意为available for immediate use。这没有问题。in case 从句用will do形式虽属少见，但在非正式语体也不是不可能。我这里无法Google，在COCA语料库找到几个in case从句用will do的句子。我相信好题老师在Google中一定能找到更多in case从句用will do形式的例句。所以这个句子不能算错误，只能说in case 从句用will do形式较为少见，属于非正式用法。
