介词+where

We first went up a mountain to a ridge from where we had fantastic views .

问：这个句子中from where we had fantastic views .这个从句是地点状语从句还是定语从句？我记得定语从句中，关系副词where= 介词+which,因为where为关系副词所以其前不能有介词，所以此句不是定语从句，要是的话就要把where改为which才对，因而此从句应该是地点状语从句，where为表示地点的名词，那么引导地点状语从句的where都是名词，这样认为对吗？

你比较一下下面的句子：

1 We first went up a mountain to a ridge from where we had fantastic views .

2 We first went up a mountain to a ridge，and from which we had fantastic views .

3 We first went up a mountain to a ridge，and from there we had fantastic views .

4 We first went up a mountain to a ridge，and from it/that we had fantastic views .

1和2 是定语从句，3和4 是对应的并列句。你觉得句3正确还是句4正确？如果你觉得句4错误，句3正确，那么句1就是正确的，句2就是错误的。原句隐含着从我们站着的地方，我们可以看到...。所以定语从句必须用from where , 而不能用from which. 但用from that place也是正确的。
