burn to do sth, 意为渴望做某事，恨不得做某事。to say在此是不及物动词，if but one word =if just one word, but为副词，意为仅仅，只。if从句省略了 it was. if it was just one word为让步从句，即使只说一句话/一个词。by介词短语是say的方式状语。to render与to say并列。doubly sure为render的宾补，their assurance of my guiltlessness为render的宾语，宾语后移到宾补之后，以强调宾语。例如，push the door open. open为形容词作宾补。push open the door 形容词open仍然是宾补，宾语后移了，强调宾语。
