run on 还是 run 的疑惑

请教专家老师：

These were the so-called mainframe machines. Mainframe computers were very large indeed, often occupying whole air-conditioned rooms, employing full-time technicians and run on specially-written software.

1）书上说这里的现在分词occupying，employing 和过去分词run都是修饰主语mainframe machines的，这种说法对吗？run应该是谓语呀，怎么会是过去分词吗？麻烦老师分析一下句法结构？

2）还有运行软件，为什么要加介词on呢？为什么不是run specially-written software呢？谢谢。

1 occupying..., employing..., and run on...这个结构模式就告诉你run 和现在分词是并列关系，所以你得理解run是过去分词，表示被动意义。它们都是分词作状语。

2 你忽略了这里讲的是过去的情况，These were..., were very large indeed, 你觉得run是谓语动词，为什么不是ran过去时呢？

你阅读时最大的缺点就是没有全局观，只看到眼前的几个词，不顾上下文逻辑。
