situation where(where从句是同位语从句还是定语从句)

句子The country is in the situation where a war will break out at any time. 这个句子主流的解释是用关系副词where引导的定语从句，修饰抽象地点situation。（本人也更倾向于这个说法）

但是亦有同志提出，这个从句应该是对situation的解释，应该用that来引导同位语从句。请问这个说法是否有道理？如果不对应该如何反驳？

The country is in the situation where a war will break out at any time.

这里的 where 从句应分析为定语从句。理由如下：

1. 这里的 where 可以用 in which 来替代（where引导同位语从句时是不能换成 in which 的）：

The country is in the situation where a war will break out at any time.

= The country is in the situation in which a war will break out at any time.

2. where 引导同位语从句仅用于极少数名词（尤其是idea）后面，不可以随意推广。如下面一句中的 where 引导同位语从句：

I have no idea where he is. （同位语从句）

3. situation where 中的 where 引导的是定语从句在英美人写的权威语法著作中可以查到依据。比如以下截图摘自《柯林斯COBUILD英语语法大全》（Collins COBUILD English Grammar）第3版第8.108节：
