书上说 not only 置于句首时要倒装,但是 not only 并不表示否定意义啊!

你误解了!

没错,表示否定意义的副词位于句首,其后通常要用倒装语序。如:

Never did he break his promise. 他从不失约。

Seldom do we have any visitors. 我们很少有客人。

Little is known about the causes of the problem. 这个问题的起因人们所知甚少。

但是,并不是说,如果要使用倒装,前面就一定是表示否定意义的词——想想看:3+3等于6,但6并不一定等3+3,是吧!

根据英语习惯,not only置于句首时,其后要用部分倒装。又如:

Not only did he turn up late, he also forgot his books. 他不但迟到,还忘了带书。

Not only do they need clothing, but they are also short of water. 他们不但需要衣服,而且还缺水。

Not only does she speak Spanish, but she also knows how to type. 她不但会说西班牙语,还会打字呢。

Not only did they win, they won by a landslide. 他们不仅胜利了,而且是以压倒性优势获胜。
