以下是相关原则，虽然不能绝对化，但大致如此。

1. 一般说来，当opinion有物主代词修饰时，用on, about, of都可以：

What is your opinion of her latest novel? 你对她最近出版的小说有什么看法？

What’s your opinion about / on the matter? 你对这件事有什么看法？

There is a large range of opinion about / on the issue of abortion.  对堕胎这个问题，有大量不同的意见。

2. 当opinion没有物主代词修饰时，通常用on, about：

Everyone had an opinion on the subject. 大家对这个问题都有自己的看法。

Opinion on the question had begun to solidify. 关于这一问题的意见已开始趋于一致。

It's hard to give an objective opinion about your own children. 对自己的子女作出客观的评价是很难的。

Opinion about the artistic merit of his paintings has been mixed. 对于他的绘画作品的艺术价值，人们褒贬不一。

3. 若用于习语，视习惯而定

比如，have a good, bad, high, low, etc. opinion of somebody/something 是习语，用介词of，意思是to think that somebody/something is good, bad, etc.（对…评价好／不好／高／低）。如：

He has a very high opinion of your work. 他对你的工作评价很高。

On the whole he had a poor opinion of human nature. 总的来说，他认为人性本恶。
