that way 放在一个句子里面，一般是作方式状语。但是，网友给了两个意思有关联的单句，而且 that way 放在第二句的句首，具有连接性副词的作用，因此，应该看作条件状语。

之所以认定为条件状语，是因为这个语境表示“可能性”，没有成为事实。一般而言，条件和原因的差别，就在于前者未曾实现。
