In that second sense of ‘making visible’, the term（指production）, by the mid-eighteenth century, had acquired the status of a technical term in jurisprudence. For example: ‘The books must be produced, as we cannot receive parole evidence of their content’ (1776, from the Oxford English Dictionary).
