一个似有成分缺失的句子与一个奇怪的句子奇怪的句子
在2021四川遂宁中考作文中有这么一句话：
I’ll do what I can to help the weak.
显然，do后面是一个宾语从句，但是这个宾语从句显然缺少了谓语动词do，我询问了老师，老师说这是一个省略句，是这样吗？
还有是这一句：
One look at his father’s face had told Huw what he didn’t want to know: Gareth was down the mine.
根据上下文，我们可以推知One代指的Huw，但是one不是往往代指同类另一个或泛指任何人，所以为什么这里用one呢？还有就是加粗的部分在句中作什么成分呢？

I’ll do what I can to help the weak. = I’ll do what I can (do) to help the weak.
【分析】what I can (do) 是宾语从句，to help the weak 是动词不定式短语作目的状语。
One look at his father’s face had told Huw what he didn’t want to know: Gareth was down the mine.
【分析】这里的One 不是代替 Huw ；这里的 look 是名词，不是动词。One look at his father’s face 是主语， had told 是谓语动词，Huw 是had told的间接宾语，what he didn’t want to know 是宾语从句作had told的直接宾语。
