A adds to B = A 增加了、扩大了B。A is added to B = A 被加入B，A和B结合。你的这个句子中，A=火山喷发的可能性；B=人类使用石油、天然气、煤炭导致的大气污染。逻辑分析可知，火山喷发的可能性并不会增加人为的大气污染，即人为的大气污染还是同样的严重程度。只是火山灰会和人为的大气污染叠加。这有可能使气候变得越来越冷。所以，插入主语和谓语动词之间的这个非谓语动词（可以分析为定语，也可以分析为状语）应该使用added to, 而不是adding to。
