Most first-year students welcome this increased independence, but many also find that living away from home, family, and friends can introduce unexpected challenges.

比较发现，though 换成 but 不仅意味着结构发生了变化，即由原来的从句变成并列分句，关键是句意发生了主、次颠倒。前句，信息表达的重心在主句上面；后句，信息重心在 but 分句上面。

女孩的母亲是过来人，对女孩说：You must leave him. Although he is rich, he is dishonest. 主句为主要信息，从句为次要信息。
