wondering的用法

Anne was left anxiously wondering which brother, but later that day she heard from Louisa Musgrove that it was in fact, Captain Wentworth.---来源书籍《劝导》

上面的句子我不太明白wondering的用法，这个的wondering 是left的伴随状语吗？这是的left是leave的过去式吗？是表示离开的意思吗？如果是离开的意思的话，为什么是was left 这个被动语态呢？

leave 除了表示“离开”之外，它还有更多的含义和用法。

leave 还表示 “使…处于…状态”。其后可接以名词、形容词、动词不定式、现在分词、过去分词或动词原形充当补足语的复合宾语。其中就有：leave sb. doing sth.

网友把 leave sb. doing sth. 变为被动语态，就是上面句子的结构。
