“there be + no doing”的基本含义是“不可能做某事”，是说话者对未来事件是否发生的一种判断，而且这种判断是否定的。有时，还表示“不许可”之意。此外，doing 是动名词，名词和动词兼而有之。动名词具备了名词的特点和作用，可以作句子的主语、宾语、表语，还可以作定语。同时又具备了动词的特征，可以有自己的宾语和状语，有时态和语态的变化。涉及问题句，动名词有自己的宾语，还有名词的作用，作句子的主语，而且有no修饰，正是因为动名词作主语，所以我们说There is，不说There are。例如：
