是用friend还是friends(初中人教版教材九年级)

请教各位老师，人教版义务教育教科书英语九年级 unit 11中，2d, role-play the conversation 里面Nancy有一句：

It made Alice unhappy because she thinks Julie is now better friends with me than with her.（见82页倒数第五行）

这句话中为什么是better friends，而不是 the better friend呢，因为宾语从句的主语是Julie，是第三人称单数呢。谢谢老师指教！

be [keep, make] friends with ... 的意思是“与......为友[保持友好，成为朋友]”，不管主语是单数还是复数，都要用 friends 不能用 friend。
