1. 为什么but这里单独用？

【答】but 作为并列连词，按说不能单独引导独立的一个句子，只能引导一个并列分句，之前可以加逗号表示停顿，也可不加。but 虽也可以单独引导一个句子，但我认为，如果单独引导一个句子，but 就不能叫作并列连词，而是副词（同样表示转折），目前几乎所有词典都认为是并列连词。对此，我不敢苟同！

2. for some time是什么意思？

【答】for some time 指谓语动词表示的动作或状态持续的时间，译为“一段时间，有些时间，很长时间”都可以。注意：它是一个时间段，谓语动词一定是持续的，终止性动词的否定形式则变成持续的。...was not able to go to a concert（未能去看音乐会）即是一个持续的动作。跟I haven’t seen her for some time. 是一个道理。
