请问 mental register 是什么意思
A voracious reader is a non-stop consumer of worlds. But ones interpretation of these worlds morphs and shifts depending on the personal experiences one brings into the reading. We identify with a characters pain because we’ve felt pain, and so on. The beauty of rereading lies in the idea that our engagement with the work is based on our current mental, emotional, and even spiritual register. It’s true, the older I get, the more I feel time has wings. But with reading, it’s all about the present. It’s about the now and what one contributes to the now, because reading is a give and take between author and reader. Each has to pull their own weight. There are books I hated in my early 20s that I now see as powerful and revelatory.
请问老师这里的 spiritual register 是什么意思呢？如果说 register 是登记册的话代入原文根本说不通啊……请老师指教。

register 在计算机领域指记忆装置，在此指人的大脑像计算机一样也有相应的记忆装置，能够记录我们心理、情感、心灵方面的经历。你按照这种理解去读文章就没有问题了。
