1. 表示“有机会做某事”。如：

She never got to go to college. 她从未有过机会上大学。

I never get to see her now that she's left the company. 她离开了公司，我再也没见过她。

We got to meet all the stars after the show. 演出之后我们得以见到了所有的明星。

She gets to travel all over the place with her job. 她做这个工作可以到各地旅行。

2. 表示“开始做某事”（有“慢慢”“逐渐”之意），用于此义时其后通常接be, like, love, know, realize, understand 等（多为表示心理状态的动词）。如：

Soon they got to be good friends. 不久他们就成了好朋友。

You’ll like her once you get to know her. 你一旦了解她，就喜欢她了。

You’ll never get to understand him. 我永远也不会理解他。

After a time you get to realize that these things don’t matter. 你过些时候就知道这些事无关紧要。
