请问老师这一段落中的 gentle and kindly 是否符合英语母语者的使用习惯呢？gentle 是形容词，kindly 有形容词和副词两种解释，但是假如理解成形容词，两个形容词不能修饰 shone；理解成副词，两个词语词性不一样，而且就算这样 gentle 也不能修饰 shone。难道 gentle and kindly 应该理解为前面的 gentle 省略了后缀 –ly ？就像 pre- and post-modern（前现代和后现代）这个词一样。请老师指教。

gentle 和 kindly 二个形容词作状语，表示谓语动作发生时主语所处的状态。His eyes shone behind his spectacles, gentle and kindly. 然后改为感叹句对gentle和kindly进行感叹，得到这个句子。注意形容词作状语不是表示方式，而是说明动作发生时主语的状态，所以用形容词，而不是用副词作状语。
