关于疑问句的状语从句的省略

The problem confronting terrestrial snakes is best illustrated by what happens to sea snakes when removed from their supportive medium.

请问各位老师状语从句的省略是要求状语从句逻辑主语与主句主语要一致?

这边的when引导的状语从句 sea snakes被省略了但是前面的主句的逻辑主语不是应该是 what吗 sea snake在主句中做宾语这边为什么可以省略？这是一种什么语法现象？谢谢!

1. 纠正网友的说法，这里没有疑问句。what 引导的名词性关系分句。what 等于 the thing that。

2. when removed...的逻辑主语是前文的 sea snakes 一致，符合状语从句省略成分的原则。即省去了 they are。
