As soon as we entered the space we were in the shared world of performer and spectator, participating in a game where we did not know the rules in advance but, by buying the ticket, had contracted to play. It is a dangerous sport－physically and emotionally. We spectators are required to be active. It is impossible to lie back in red plush seats and, during interminable moments, daydream or sleep, waking up sometime later having missed much. In such confined spaces the performers are so physically close to us that we become part of the action observed by the other spectators.

——整个不定式短语（to lie...much）是真正主语，it 是形式主语。三个动词并列。后面两个动词额外加了一个时间状语：during interminable moments,

—— waking up sometime later having missed much，整个现在分词短语作状语。具体说，是不定式动作的结果状语。而 having missed much 则是 waking up 的结果状语。
