different from的比较对象是否一致（商榷2019全国卷）

The air was so different from the city.

这是2019高考英语全国卷Ⅱ听力中的一个句子。我觉得这个句子是错的，因为 different from 连接的比较对象不一致。应该改为：

The air was so different from that (=the air) in the city.

赞同两位老师的解答。改动后当然是最好的，是标准的英语表达。不过，下面的例句中的比较对象也不同，但意义清楚明白。

This visit is very different from/to last time.这次的访问与上次大不一样。《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》

▲在口语或非正式英语中，这样的表达常可被人接受，但建议你不要模仿。COCA中就不乏这样的例句。

This campus is different from Germany.

The barbecue is different from state to state.

Well, the Natural Law Party I think is different from the situation there.

Today's picture is different from my usual content in many ways.

The air was so different from that (= the air) in the city.

正确的说法应该比较对象一致，你的质疑是对的。不过，你提到这是听力题，也有可能是英语为非母语的人或没有受过良好教育的人说的话，也有可能。我没有听过这段录音，至少个人猜测。
