这里scratching 为动名词，意思是刮擦，drawings, ancient graffiti or scraffit, scratching 这几个词是并列的。piercing是现在分词，可以看作是宾补。比较多见的是scratching前一般应该有个and,但在一些文学作品中，也有不用的现象。

你如果能理解He came running at us两个动词之间的逻辑关系，就能理解这句话。只不过是把限定动词变成了非限定。

在本论坛一般把 Piercing这种用法理解为方式状语。
