定语从句的主谓一致

1）Tom is one of the students who were late this morning.

2）Tom is the only one of the students who was late this morning.

在1）句中，who的先行词可以是one of the students吗？这样的话定语从句的谓语动词为复数。

《牛津英语用法指南》第四版130.1指出：

在 one of the ... 这类表达方式后面，以 who, which 或 that开头的关系从句中既可以用单数动词，也可以用复数动词。

所以，下面的句子是正确的：

Tom is one of the students who were (或 was) late this morning.
