not of the least importance 含义理解困惑

He assured her with much earnest gravity that it was not of the least importance.

他郑重地向她保证这一点也不重要。

这句话是不是应该把not去掉才正确呢？ least已经是最不重要（含否定的含义），再加上前面的not, 应该是双重否定了。

所以，英文句子的意思是：不是最不重要= 很重要？要去掉not吗？

《韦氏高阶》not (in) the least : not at all : not in any way or respect

It did not interest me in the least. [=it did not interest me at all]

这里（in) the least 是对not的强调。即一点也不，等于not at all.

所以你的句子：

... it was not of the least importance.

= it was not of any importance at all.

= it was of no importance.

= it was not important at all.

= it was not important in any way.
