老师们,想请教这样一个问题。
看了前面有人提问和解答的,我了解了more可以位于some, many, a few以及数词等后面,表示在原来基础上附加“更多的……”如:
We receive many more photos this year.
然后much more可以用上述more的作用来解释,后接不可数名词。
如:
I would like much more coffee.
我的疑问是,much 不是可以修饰比较级吗?当more后接多音节词构成比较级时,可以说:
much more beautiful
但是more本身也是many和more的比较级,此时前面可以用much修饰吗?如:
I have much more books than you.
这句话对吗?类似的:
They built a much larger house for the old man.
They built much larger houses for us.
这两句话正确吗?
此时much是修饰其后的比较级(more和larger)而不是修饰后面的复数名词(books和houses)。不知道可以这样用吗?
I have one/a few/many more books than you.的搭配又是否正确?此时的more可以理解为开头说的附加用法吗?望老师解答。
你的理解不符合英文的表达习惯。表示“更多”时,more应位于表示“数量”的词之后,如one (two, three, four…) more, a few more, several more, many more, some more...等等。photos是可数名词复数,故用many more修饰。
1. many more修饰复数名词,若不接名词,more指代复数名词。例如:
I hope to have many more years with you. 我希望还可以和你们一起度过更多的岁月。
Some students are against the plan, but many more support it. 一些同学反对这个计划,但是更多的同学支持它。
2. much more修饰不可数名词,若不接名词,more指代不可数名词。例如:
He earned much more money than his brother. 他挣的钱比他兄弟多多了。
I have much more to do. 我有很多事要做。
3. much more, far more, even more, still more等可在比较级句式中修饰形容词或副词,表“更加……”,但many more不能这样用。例如:
I find urban rail traffic much more convenient. 我发现城市轨道交通方便多了。
