conjunction 与 linking word 都表示“连词”。

conjunction 是大家比较熟悉的，也是一般语法书通常使用的术语，包括大家熟悉的并列连词(coordinating conjunctions / coordinators) 和从属连词(subordinating conjunctions / subordinators)。

用 linking word 表示“连词”，其含义比 conjunction 的含义更广，它不仅包括通常意义的并列连词和从属连词，而且还包括起连接作用的副词或介词短语（如in addition, moreover, besides等）。

比如《牛津英语语法词典》就专门收录了 linking word 词条，它所给出的定义和范围是：

linking word

(An umbrella term for) any word that joins two linguistic units.

Linking words include

(a) coordinating conjunctions (e.g. and, but)

(b) subordinating conjunctions (e.g. although, because, when)

(c) conjuncts (e.g. in addition, moreover, meanwhile, nevertheless)
