被动句中分词的选用

老师好！我在一份试卷中看到下面两句话：

1. The new product is made by combining fishing waste and algae.

2. The applicant will be informed of the rejection by receiving a form letter.

我觉得1句对，2句错误。2句的receiving应改为sending，或不用分词，改成through a form letter，不知这样改是否正确。

1. The new product is made by combining fishing waste and algae.

2. The applicant will be informed of the rejection by receiving a form letter.

这两个句子都对，不用改。

1. a form letter：指公函中的“格式信件;回答询问的套用信件”。

2. by receiving a form letter 是 be informed of the rejection 的方式状语。逻辑主语就是句子主语，符合语法。
