当你用after引导一个时间状语从句时，只表示主句谓语动作发生在从句动作之后，二个动作之间相隔多久是没有说明的。如果你既要表示二个动作的先后顺序，也要表示二个动词之间的时间间隔具体多久，你就在after前用时间名词去修饰它，例如three days after..., two years after, five minutes after...。如果你用了57 years after..., 意为主句的动作发生在从句动作发生57年之后。但此时时间间隔的精确度是以年计算的。如果你在57 years to the day after...，这个to the day就表示57年后是精确到天的，即从句动作是57年前的哪一天，主句动作就是57年后的同一天。也就是整整57年后的意思，一天不多，一天也有不少。这就是这个句子的意思。
