老师好！

向老师请教两个句子

1. Swan《英语用法指南》407页，The more information that comes in, the more confused the picture is. 我不太理解The more information that comes in的结构，more是副词，还是限定词？that在这充当的成分是？

2. 章振邦《新编高级英语语法》395页，The higher the velocity of the steam, the greater (is) the turbine speed. 对这个句子的两个疑问是：

（1）省略时，可以是不对应的吗？比如主从句一个省略is，另一个不省，就像https://www.cpsenglish.com/question/50370这个问题里的句子？

（2）我也不理解is的位置，我觉得is的位置用在句末，即the greater the turbine speed is。章教授在同一页还有相似的例句：The more grain we produce, the greater will be our achievement. 麻烦老师了！

以下句子都正确。各句特点分析：

The more information that comes in, the more confused the picture is.

——The more information that comes in 是一个名词词组，不是完整的句子，that comes in 是定语从句。这类结构经常省略成分。第二分句 the more confused the picture is. 是完整的主系表结构。

The higher the velocity of the steam, the greater (is) the turbine speed.

——第一分句是主系表结构，句末省略了 is；第二分句也是主系表结构，is 可以省略，也可以放在句末，不用倒装。

The more grain we produce, the greater will be our achievement.

——第一分句是完整的主动宾结构，第二分句是完整的主系表结构，will be 也可以放在句末，不用倒装。
