关于定语从句引导词的替换问题

请问老师，在He will put off the picnic until May 1st, when he will be free.这个句子中when可以替换为介词加which的形式吗？如果能，是用什么介词？如果不能，是为什么？

又比如He put off the picnic until the day on which he was free.这个句子是对的吗？

He will put off the picnic until May 1st, when he will be free.

He put off the picnic until the day on which he was free.

先行词如果指具体的一天，可以用 on which 替代 when 引导定语从句。两句都对。
