from ...to... 结构中可以使用形容词吗

在看美国国家地理杂志网站时，遇到这样一个句子：EEC countries flourished during the 1960s, and Western Europe transformed from hungry to prosperous. 这里的hungry 和prosperous是否应该改用名词hunger 和prosperity？文章出处：

from后接形容词非常少见，但个人认为并非不可以，此处可以视为名词短语的省略，虽然名词短语中核心词为名词，然而在省略后语义仍然清晰的情况下名词仍然可以省略，比如the rich (people)、the new (thing)、from good (state/level) to better (state/level) 等。

至于本句形容词前后省略的限定词及名词你可以灵活理解。但将hungry 和prosperous改用名词hunger 和prosperity却显然不合适。
