to be honest I’d much prefer to be doing that than using some hard-sell technique 

1. 应该是 to be honest（说实话；老实说）。网友知道不知道，不定式有“进行体”？怎么写？网友可曾知道：to do,  to be doing,  to have done？

2. 先说 than 的词性和用法。本句，than 是介词不是连词。它一般不能单独使用，除了主句含有比较级，引导比较从句之外，它还可以表示“排除”意义，经常用于different than, rather than，other than，no other than, would rather...than, would prefer to do...than 等结构。

3. 本句便是用于would prefer to do...than，意思是“更愿意做某事，而不做某事”。

4. prefer 之后接不定式，可以是一般体（prefer to do），也可以是进行体（prefer to be doing），但有区别。前者表示“愿意去做”（将来要做），后者表示“愿意在做”（指现在正在做）。本句的to be与doing 构成不定式进行体。就是表达“目前正在做”之意。
