where...go to的说法对吗
请问曹老师，在人教版高中英语选修七第78页上有这么一句:
No matter where you go to in the world, Youthtravel is there too. 这里为什么把where和to搭配了呢？我们不是常说Where did you go?，不需要加to吗？谢谢!

我觉得与 where 连用的 to 的省略不是必须的，而是选择性的，虽然通常省略，但不省略也不能算错。如：
Where shall we go to?我们到哪里去呢?（《张道真英语用法》to词条）
Where else can I go to?（章振邦《高级英语语法》p683）
The son wants to go to the cinema and the daughter wants to go to the theatre, their mother is between two fires and does not know where to go to. 儿子想去看电影，女儿想去看戏，妈妈左右为难，不知道看哪个好。(《英语介词用法词典》天津科学技术出版社)

同意陈老师的解答，这样用的 to 虽然通常省略，但不省略也不能算错。

关于这个问题，我觉得应该从以下思路去理解。
1. where 在大多数情况下，都是用作疑问副词。相当于：
to what place？
at what place？
in what place？
这时，where 跟位移动词go连用时，不能再重复使用方向介词to。如：
Where shall we go? = To what place shall we go?
2. where 偶而可以用作疑问代词，相当于：what place? 例如：
Where would be the best place to hold the party? =
What place would be the best place to hold the party?
这时，就可以与方向介词to 连用。如：
Where shall we go to? = What place shall we go to?
关于 where 是疑问代词词性（interrogative pronoun），词典都有收录。

你如果查词典，你会发现词典对where的解释是 to, at, in what place. 即where本身隐含了to的意思，所以一般不再说to where, 而直接说where。例如，Where are you going? 但在实际应用中，确实有人会说 Where are you going to? 说话比较注意的人，是不会用to的。本句中的to是多余的。但并非所有人说话都很注意。中国人说话或写文章，也有出错的时候。
