你的断句不对，不是 as anything, 应该是anything other than = anything but =different from... 。另外，engage ... as... 应该是这样断句。这句话大概意思应该是：似乎没暗示，勇气，痴迷和意愿来争取每一个孩子的思想，不应该把他们当作降低数据统计的原材料。（没有上下文，只能靠字面意思理解）。
