（2）网友对句子的理解有误。主要是误解了冒号的作用。冒号的主要作用是表示同位关系。即a reversal of priorities和冒号后面的部分是同位关系。而人不可能是reversal of priorities的同位语, 因此不可以将doing形式分析为现在分词短语作后置定语，而只能认为名词+doing构成动名词复合结构作同位语，尽管这个同位语是由并列的动名词复合结构构成：Westerners making...and mastering; and Chinese being...but evolving...。

你不说我都不知道呢。对比来看，按照动名词复合结构作同位语更为合适。理由是，独立主格结构是独立于句子结构以外的独立结构，不会用冒号的。冒号提示后面是句子结构的一部分，所以分析为同位语更为合理。
