外刊中两个小句子的疑惑

①Neuroscientists believe they are involved in the processing of memories.

Participants signalled that they were engaged in lucid dreaming in just 26% of the sessions.

请问老师上面的句子中为什么分别用了processing/dreaming,不可以用the process of/in lucid dreams吗？

②Thus prepared, the volunteers were wired up with electrodes and sent back to the land of Nod.

Interviewed upon waking, the participants reported that the questions had been incorporated into their dreams.

请问老师上面两个句子是不是Thus(everything)prepared / (the participants)interviewed upon waking的省略？

1 processing 和 dreaming 都是名词化的动名词，表示的仍然是动作意义，但用如名词。processing表示处理这个动作，dreaming表示做梦这个动作。如果用名词process，或 dream，则有可能被误读为“过程” 和“梦”。这就是为什么。

2 thus prepared 为过去分词短语作状语，thus为副词，= in this way. 所以，thus prepared =prepared in this way. 至于in this way指的是什么，要从前面的句子去理解，与后面的内容无关。
