Where从句为广义的地点状语从句，但实际表示的是方面。即in the respect in which. 这与in many companies作状语并不矛盾。

我觉得，这里where = whereas, 是连词，近似于while，不是地点状语从句。 the free dictionary解释 (= whereas) 例句： sometimes a teacher will be listened to where a parent might not .
