关于as比较句的句式成分疑惑

上面节选中，有2个比较部分没搞懂，第一个比较是so incalculable as 为什么不是 as incalculable as ? 第二个比较是as for blaming the tiger，为什么不是as to blame the tiger, 以便和前面(was as absurd) to blame对应呢？
另外，顺便请教老师But it was the whim I could not understand. 强调句为什么少了that ？

1. 在否定句中 as ...as 也可以写成so ... as... 可以互换。主句有nothing, 有否定意味。
2. as for blaming the tiger 因为前面for not feeling them 后面所以as for blaming the tiger. 这是as...as 的比较。所以要前后对应。
3. 强调句that 有时可以省略。
