see A as B 是see的用法之一，把A视为B，认为A 是B 。as B合起来为介词短语作see的宾补。see在此不是感官动词，而是认知动词。 as B 中的as通常认为是介词，B 可以是名词、形容词、动名词、过去分词。B 为形容词或过去分词时，被认为是省略了动名词being。 你这个句子中的as不可省略，句子意思为：或许，他认为自己是在鼓励学生们开始。。。
而 see sb doing sth结构中， see 是感官动词，看见某人在做某事。doing必须是动态动词表示事件意义，这个事件的发生是肉眼可见的。
