1)单纯地得到一个答案,助益并不大。网友提问,应该注明出处,说明理由。比如说网友的这句话,是谁(授课老师、语法教材、视频教学等等)认为错了?TA们认为错了的理由是什么?这样大家才能有的放矢地进行讨论。
2)个人看法:如果是你的老师或者某本语法书上说这个句子错了,TA们应该不是说这个句子被动、主动或者it用错等问题,而是TA们认为传统上,英语中没有“It proved that the rumor was true”这种用法,可以说 The rumor proved to be true,但不宜使用 It proved that the rumor was true。当时应该是把prove和它的同义词turn out放一起讨论的吧?因为turn out 完全可以这么用:It turned out that the rumor was true.
谢孟媛的说法是没有依据的,是想当然的观点。

It proved him guilty.
It proved his guilt.
He was proved guilty.
It proved that he was guilty.
