单选（定语从句分析）感觉有两个选项都可以，求解答

The professor could hardly find sufficient grounds _____his arguments in favor of the new theory.

A. to be based on B. to base on C. which to base on D. on which to base

这道题按定语从句来看选D可以理解（答案是D），但是如果选A好像也可以，我的理解是to be based on作为grounds的定语，感觉也说得通，请老师指点迷津。

The professor could hardly find sufficient grounds on which to base his arguments in favour of the new theory.

上面都可以。

A错的地方很多，最明显的是，后面的一个on没地方放了。

举个简单的不定式修饰名词的例子

a table to put books on 等于 a table for people to put books on，假设要改用被动，也只能是books为被动的主语，而不是table，但你的A答案，就相当于这里的把table作被动的主语了。何况根本不允许用被动不定式。
